Absence/holidays in term time policy

It is widely recognised that the educational outcomes and future life chances of children can be significantly impacted upon by periods of absence.  The Governors of this School wish to encourage parents to ensure their child attends school every day.

Leave of Absence/Holidays in term time

This will only be allowed during term time in very exceptional circumstances and permission is at the complete discretion of the Headteacher. In such instances, a leave of absence/holiday request form should be submitted to the Headteacher at least 2 weeks before the leave of absence.

If no permission is sought or if permission is refused, then the absence will be treated as unauthorised.  If a student is absent due to an unauthorised leave of absence then a request to the Local Authority for a Penalty Notice to be issued will be made and you may receive a fine of £120 for each parent/carer.

Penalty Notices

Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 each parent/carer may be issued with a Penalty Notice for each of their children who fail to attend school regularly. A Penalty Notice is an early deterrent which is intended to prevent more extended periods of Unauthorised Absence developing. Each such Penalty Notice incurs a fine of £120 which is reduced to £60 if paid within 28 days of the notice being served. Failure to pay a Penalty Notice may result in prosecution.
