LPPA

 

At Saint Ambrose there are high aspirations for parental engagement.

We have achieved the Leading Parent Partnership Award.  The purpose of this nationally recognised award is to help focus the school’s work with parents and families.

During this process we hope to build on the many strengths the school already has with parents.  We want to provide opportunities for parents to have a voice in everyday school life.  At Saint Ambrose we want to do everything we possibly can to help parents and families support their children.

The LPPA consists of ten evidence-based Objectives which schools must meet to get the award.

  • The school demonstrates a commitment to work towards the Leading Parent Partnership Award.
  • The school makes and implements effective plans to achieve and maintain the Leading Parent Partnership Award.
  • The school is a welcoming and friendly place for parents.
  • The school promotes an awareness of and participation in lifelong learning opportunities available in school and in the community to all groups of parents.
  • The school holds and actively promotes enrichment opportunities or events for joint parent/child participation.
  • The school provides good induction for all new parents.
  • The school provides parents with relevant and user-friendly guidance and information to help them support their children’s learning.
  • The school produces and implements parent friendly policies to establish effective home school-links and improve pupil/student attendance, punctuality, behaviour and progress and positive participation in school.
  • The school provides good support for transition for parents when their children leave the school.
  • The school evaluates performance against the Leading Parent Partnership Award.

So what is the award?

The LPPA is a nationally recognized award achievable by schools who work very closely with the families of their pupils.  The assessment is made by an external advisor.

The strengths from the report are:

Leadership and Management

  • The development of the LPPA within school was been extremely thorough and the co-ordinator has been highly effective in her role.
  • The school is very flexible in its approach to involving parents and is determined to effectively communicate with all its stakeholders. Developing positive relationships with the families is a core principle of the school.
  • Effective management has involved all the staff and as a result the whole school community has “ownership” of the LPPA.
  • The LPPA framework has been used very effectively as a diagnostic tool.
  • St Ambrose is an extremely well–ordered school. There is a very warm and welcoming atmosphere and the pupils are very well behaved, engaged in their learning and well mannered.
  • The displays around school evidence a rich curriculum and evidence the high expectations of the pupils' work.
  • The governors are committed to developing parental partnership and are fully informed about developments towards the LPPA award.

 Staff

  • Staff are motivated and proactive, resulting in distributed leadership of the LPPA framework.
  • The staff are very approachable and will do all they can to help. Parents are confident to ask questions and share concerns.
  • Relationships between the staff and the parents are very strong.

 Parents

  • The parents feel the school is a welcoming place and feel confident in attending workshops and events.
  • Communication with the parent body is a real strength of the school. The parents appreciate how they are kept well informed by the school. The weekly “Green Cards” are well received by the parents.
  • Parents are fully involved in their children’s education and the school has provided many opportunities to enable families to learn and celebrate together.
  • The website is regularly used by the parents and is a very useful source of information.
  • Parents are very appreciative of the information and materials sent home to support the children’s learning.

 Pupils

  • The pupils are very proud of their school and the pupils interviewed all had aspirations.
  • The pupils said, “… this is a school where teachers are supportive, lessons are exciting, standards are high, the teachers listen to the parents and children and it is a friendly and safe place.”

What difference will the award make to the work done with families at Saint Ambrose?

It will make our work with families even better.  It will improve our communication and build more activities for families in school.  As you know we are always trying to improve and completing this award will help us do that!

 How can families help us gain the award?

  • Read all information that we send out
  • Come along to events we organize if you are able
  • Complete any questionnaires we send out as honestly as you can

 The LPPA working party is now established and meet regularly to work on the areas of development, which are:

  • To continue to provide a range of opportunities for parents to join in with their children’s learning both at home and at school.
  • Building on the school’s successful strategies, to ensure all groups of parents are targeted to become actively involved in the life of the school.
